The Maison du Peuple’s lanterns form part of a passive roof-ventilation design in Burkina Faso’s Tentative List entry. The 2019 Ramsar site links Bangr-Weoogo Urban Park with three reservoirs; the National Museum stands east of town.

A place worth remembering

A roof designed to move warm air

Burkina Faso’s Tentative List entry dates the circular Maison du Peuple to 1964–65 and describes at least 40 roof pyramids with lanterns. The submission presents them as passive ventilation ducts that favour convection to cool the interior and bring natural light into the main auditorium.[1]

One Ramsar site, park and reservoirs

Ramsar’s 2019 record covers 945 ha and includes Bangr-Weoogo Urban Park alongside three reservoirs as one connected site. The listed wetland therefore extends beyond the park itself.[2]

The National Museum east of town

The Musée National du Burkina Faso presents itself as an ethnographic museum on a 29.94-ha site east of Ouagadougou. The museum describes the buildings as Sudano-Sahelian in type.[3]
