A cable-car cabin in a Caracas collection

A 2009 account of Caracas’s Transport Museum names a cabin from the Maripérez–Ávila cable car and models of the city centre in the 1930s. Ministry of Culture press items describe prepared specimens in the collections of the Museo de Ciencias and the 1938 inaugural exhibition of the Caracas Museum of Fine Arts.

A place worth remembering

A cabin and a model of older streets

The museum’s own page, dated March 2009, lists a Maripérez–Ávila cable-car cabin among its collections. It also mentions architect Ruth Neumann’s scale models of central Caracas in the 1930s, in which urban transport systems of the period can be seen.[1]

Natural history at the Museo de Ciencias

A September 2023 Ministry of Culture press item says the collections of the Museo de Ciencias include prepared specimens, among them birds, reptiles, insects, arachnids, mammals and fish. It also mentions ethnography and archaeology. A 2015 article in Revista de Investigación refers to it as the Museo de Ciencias de Caracas.[2][3]

A catalogue for the opening exhibition

A February 2024 Ministry of Culture press item on the 86th anniversary of the neoclassical building says it was the Caracas Museum of Fine Arts’ first purpose-built home. It says the 1938 inaugural exhibition brought together Venezuelan, Latin American and European works from the collection and was recorded in the institution’s first catalogue.[4]
