A place worth remembering

A shared route shaped by the seasons

ZHA describes the central public courtyard as an entrance and meeting space between the campus buildings in temperate seasons. For the hottest part of the year, the main buildings are linked by an underground route.[1]

Windcatchers as part of the courtyard design

According to ZHA, each courtyard has a windcatcher built into the roof profile on its southern side. The architects say these draw in the prevailing north wind to cool the court.[1]

The five buildings of the campus

ZHA gives the campus area as 70,000 m². Of its five buildings, two are the Energy Computer Centre and the Energy Knowledge Centre; the others are a conference centre that combines an exhibition hall and an auditorium seating 300, a research library holding an archive of 100,000 volumes, and the Musalla, a place for prayer.[1]
