The sheet records sandy ground in the west, clay toward the east and a sandy-clay mix between.[2]

A place worth remembering

Low tide dries patches, not the whole site

At low tide, central mangrove areas may become very dry, but Woods’s 2006 account says water remains in parts of Mesurado throughout the year.[2]

A west-to-east soil transition

Woods’s 2006 sheet describes sandy ground in the west giving way to clay toward the east, with a mixed sandy-clay zone between.[2]

Mudflats feed migratory birds

The 2006 overview links patches of mudflat among the mangroves with migratory birds that feed there.[2]

Good to know

A few clear answers before you explore.

Does Mesurado dry out completely at low tide?

No. The 2006 sheet says central mangrove ground may become very dry, but water remains elsewhere at Mesurado all year.[2]

Why does the 2006 overview mention the mudflats?

It describes patches among the mangroves as feeding habitat for migratory birds and identifies the wetland as a spawning area for many fish species.[2]

What soil pattern does the sheet record?

A change from sandy ground in the west to clay toward the east, with a mixed sandy-clay zone between.[2]
